Skelos: There's Only So Much I Can Do State lawmakers are leaving Albany for the weekend without a plan in place to close New York's budget gap. Senate Democrat Conference Leader John Sampson claims a deal is near to close the state's three-point-two-billion-dollar deficit, but the state legislative leaders have been promising to come to an agreement for the past week. Governor Paterson says state lawmakers are not taking serious action to solve the fiscal crisis.
