Dear Arthur and Pauline,
My wife and I are contemplating a trip to Australia, and we've been researching tour companies. Some offer tours of both Australia and New Zealand, or just Australia. Here's my question: is it an absolute must to see New Zealand, or should we just spend more time in Australia? We both love to snorkel and would consider spending more time at the Great Barrier Reef vs New Zealand.
Thanks for your input,
Bill D
One of the biggest mistakes many travelers make is trying to see too much. They take what should be eye-opening, relaxing vacations and turn them into not-so-Amazing races, dashing from one top tourist site to the next until it all becomes a blur.
Australia is a vast and rich destination to explore so my advice would be: give it the time it deserves. This is not meant as a put down to New Zealand, which is, quite frankly, just as vibrant a destination. But trying to squeeze both into a trip of less than three weeks, just doesn't make sense to me. Especially as you have an interest in snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Have a wonderful time Down Under!
Best,
Pauline Frommer
