I was a music teacher in Lincoln, NE some years back and the former band and choir directors are returning for homecoming weekend--and they are asking if any other former muric teachers can come. When I called my travel club the other day I was quoted something like $329 (taxes included) --but now that we've finally decided to go, the price has shot up to $419.90 (for one).
How can I find the best rate to fly from either LaGuardia or JFK to LNK (Lincoln, NE)? We may decide to stay home. It is costly for just a weekend. We'd like to go April 3 (early morning) and return maybe mid-day or afternoon Sunday, April 5, 2009.
Any suggestions? We don't mind stop-overs. We are being picked up by friends in their 80s so don't want to have them drive to Omaha, which would be cheaper.
Thanks so much if you have any ideas.

Dear Naomi,
That's a tough one. While flights to many areas of the country have decreased in price, certain under-serviced airports, like Lincoln, are getting pricier, simply because the airlines have cut back on flights to these secondary gateways.
I'd suggest you look at www.kayak.com, www.momondo.com and www.sidestep.com. These sites "google" airfare information, giving you a very broad search. Be sure you input that you can be flexible with your NYC airports as this can affect the price greatly. As well, do your booking on a Tuesday or Wednesday during the daytime. These are times when sales pop, and can often be much cheaper times to book than afternoons or weekends when the majority of consumers have the time to book and so do so then.
But do it right away!! Usually prices start to increase 21 days before a flight, and go up every day. You may be too late to snag a low fare.
A final thought: could you rent the car and drive from Omaha? That could end up being the cheapest method, though you'll have to crunch the numbers.
In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.
