Q. Is it safe to travel to Cancun?

A. It certainly is. Cancun is many hundreds of miles away from the border areas in which drug-related conflict is currently experienced--and those quarrels have no impact on the tourist in Cancun. I recently spent a lengthy vacation in Cancun and the nearby Maya Riviera, and never felt the slightest misapprehension, nor did a single person refer to the need for precautions. There has not been a single tourist endangered by drug-related violence in Mexico.
Those persons shouting about the danger of travel to the classic tourist areas of Mexico are wholly misguided, if not motivated by baser considerations. Their warnings are as unfounded as if they were telling you not to travel to New York City because of public disorder in Topeka, Kansas. You can continue to travel to Cancun with complete security.
