Subject: 10,000 oil change...

Hi Ron,

My husband and I just purchased a 2000 Crown vic with 46,000 miles;
driven by an older couple until a year ago. The son is who we bought
the car from and he took charge of the car a year ago. There are
service records which include all oil changes on a regular schedule
until last year when the last oil change happened. Since that time,
the car traveled 10,000 miles and the oil is a year old.

Needless to say we will change the oil immediately, the level was
down about a quart and a half when checked. My question is what
damage, if any, do you think this had on the car and is there
anything else in addition to the oil and filter change we should do
relating to this lax in oil changes?

Best wishes & we love your show; we listen on WVOM the voice of Maine.
Christine

Christine,

I wouldn’t worry about the extended change going forward; if its not making any noise and runs ok other than some elevated wear issues temporarily chances are there won't be any real long term effects. The key now is to get back on the wagon so to speak and change the oil along with any other fluids the vehicle has that are due (chances are all of them!)

With the oil change throw in a blue bottle of STP oil treatment; good stuff, like vitamins and works wonders. Been using it for years...

Marathon Miracle

In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...

Pray for Us

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.

Great food matched with lovely wines

Here is a list of wines all from Spain, and menus from restaurants in Brooklyn where a crew of us  did a food / wine crawl through Carrol Gardens and Williamsburg recently
