NJ's gov.-elect Christie back on Democrat's turf and set to freeze unfunded regs

Governor elect Chris Christie on "The Steve Malzberg Show"

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. -- Chris Christie's second appearance as New Jersey's governor-elect will be on a Democrat's turf.

Christie is touring downtown Woodbridge Thursday with Mayor John McCormac. McCormac was state treasurer under former Gov. Jim McGreevey.
.
Christie's first public event after defeating Gov. Jon Corzine was to visit a charter school in Newark. The school was founded by Essex County Democratic power broker Steve Adubato.

The Republican says his administration will encourage bipartisanship.

Christie drew strong support from suburban and rural areas to beat Corzine by more than 100,000 votes on Tuesday. Corzine didn't do as well in urban areas as he did in 2005.

Tuesday's results show Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine may have garnered fewer votes in every one of the states 21 counties than he did when he won the state's highest office in 2005.

Christie edged Corzine in 13 counties and had an overall margin of victory of approximately 100,000 votes.

About 2.4 million of New Jersey's 6.6 million adult residents cast ballots Tuesday, a turnout of over 35 percent. That's down from 36 percent in 2005.

Christie, a former corruption-busting prosecutor, tapped into deep voter discontent over high taxes and chronic financial problems to unseat Corzine.

Earlier today, New Jersey's next governor says the first thing he'll do is freeze new regulations and unfunded mandates.

Gov.-elect Chris Christie says such programs will be put on hold for 90 days so his administration can review them.

The Republican says he's willing to compromise with the Democratic majority in the Legislature. But Christie says he's not afraid to fight for his principles.

One day after winning the election, Christie spent part of Wednesday speaking to charter school students in Newark.

Christie used the visit to Robert Treat Academy to highlight his commitment to fixing urban education. That was one of his priorities during the campaign.

Marathon Miracle

In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...

Pray for Us

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.

Great food matched with lovely wines

Here is a list of wines all from Spain, and menus from restaurants in Brooklyn where a crew of us  did a food / wine crawl through Carrol Gardens and Williamsburg recently
