New York Governor David Paterson said that the New York State government hasn’t operated since June 8, and the courts want the Senate to solve their own problems. On top of that, the people can't throw the Senators out, even though they have violated their oaths and are non-constitutional. The Governor said that the debacle is a political charade. All the senators are holding the process up, alluding to the state of New Jersey between 2002 and 2003 where Paterson said the state had the same problems as New York, but used a power-sharing solution. New York can't do that because they haven't agreed to rotate power. There must be a location between the two sides. Democrats are not moving because Smith and Sampson cant delegate power between themselves. This problem affects all parts of New York's local reserves, such as Yonkers and New York City. In addition, jobless coverage has expired. Paterson feels he and other leaders are being forced to edge duty and power because the Senate wont pass emergency bills and regular legislation at the same time.
He also said New York will be a billion dollars in debt by September. Senators can't do the heavy lifting because they can't come to a consensus now. Paterson continues to meet with them, and has cut them off from checks, revoked their time off, among other measures. There will be layoffs in NYC if charade doesn’t stop, Paterson said. Espada is a lightening rod for the quagmire, as Democrats hate him because he's a flip flopper. The Governor said he never spoke to a Republican senator about switching. Rather, he wants them to tell the public, and not in a backhanded way. Republicans say flip is about "reform",it's not according to Paterson. He wants them to pass the emergency bills, together, but they wont.
The Governor concluded he wants the senators to have a public meeting so people can see what going on but they wont because people will see the holdup is personal. He wants to restructure the senate, but he needs more meetings to find something to break the stalemate up. He concluded at the first constitutional convention, the lawmakers yelled and screamed, but they never forgot their goals. New senators forget whom they serve and how they got there. The governor has no interest in fighting them, he just wants to help serve and protect the people. You have to sleep with flies to get out of office, he said. There are no fears because the Senators won't lose their jobs. In the last 40 years, the governor said, there have been 36 deadlocks. It's not unique, but what is, is that they can't come to a conclusion. Paterson was elected to be mediator between sides, but according to him, it looks impossible.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.
