Biker Edwin Mieses Jr., who was involved in the violent road rage incident on Sunday on the West Side Highway, has hired celebrity attorney Gloria Allred. Mieses Jr. is in the hospital after suffering spinal injuries and broken legs when the driver of an SUV ran him over.
The incident has become a national story after video from one of the biker's helmet cams was posted online (watch below). The video shows the SUV plowing through a couple bikers before being chased through the streets by a group of bikers. The bikers eventually stopped the SUV and pulled the driver, Alexian Lien, from his car and beat him with his wife and 2-year-old still in the car.
Mieses' family says Edwin is the real victim. "There's no hope for his back," Dayana Mieses said (via NBC New York). "They crushed his spine. They broke it in two different places, so he will be forever, forever paralyzed."
Meanwhile, bikers rallied outside the Manhattan hospital where Mieses is recovering Wednesday night to show their support. Allred will represent Mieses in a potential case against Lien.
Since the incident, two bikers have been arrested, but one has been released.
