LISTEN: NYC Parent Discusses Boycott of High-Stakes Testing in City Schools
Posted April 22nd, 2013 @ 5:12pm

NYC parents are fed up and they're not going to take it anymore. Cynthia Copeland, the mother of a East Village fourth grader spoke with Hilarie Barsky (filling in for John Gambling) Monday morning on WOR 710. Copeland expressed frustration with the city's implementation of high-stakes tests that are taking up all of the students time.

"Parents are fed up, so much money is going into the development of this test as opposed to going into the teaching and learning," Copeland told Hilarie. Copeland went on to argue that so much shouldn't be resting on one test. Students grades three to eight will be taking state reading and math tests that will be tied to report cards, teacher evaluations, teacher salaries, and more. Listen below to Hilarie's interview with Cynthia Copeland.
