Memo Gives Insight into Bridgegate Scandal

Port Authority cops were reportedly told to “shut up” about the lane closures at the George Washington Bridge last September.

According to a memo obtained by the Star Ledger, a veteran officer complained that closing the lanes had resulted in “severe traffic” that was “creating hazardous conditions.”

A supervisor then told the officer to “shut up” and not to talk about the lane closures over the police radio.

The officers also believed the closing were because of a dispute between the Christie administration and Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich.

“There seems to be a pattern of people who see things that are wrong and were either told to be quiet or knew they should be quiet," said Assemblyman John Wisniewski, who co-chairs the legislature’s investigative panel.

The legislature and the U.S. Attorney’s office are both continuing investigations into the Bridgegate scandal.
