Cy-Young award winner and three-time World Series Champion Dwight "Doc" Gooden joined Joan Hamburg on WOR 710 Tuesday. The former Mets and Yankees pitcher talked with Joan about Dr. Drew Pinsky's "Celebrity Rehab" TV show and how it helped him overcome his alcohol and cocaine addictions.
Dr. Drew recently revealed that he will no longer continue "Celebrity Rehab" after receiving a lot of criticism following the deaths of five former cast members. However, Gooden, who was in rehab numerous times before, is an example of a celebrity who was helped by Dr. Drew's show. "The therapy and the treatment I got behind the scenes with his staff, Bob Forrest, was just tremendous," Gooden explained. "They make you basically be honest with yourself." Gooden has been sober for over two years now.
Gooden was a cast member on season 5 of "Celebrity Rehab' with Michael Lohan, the father of troubled actress Lindsay Lohan. When Joan asked Gooden if Lindsay’s current situation is being handled improperly Gooden said, "Until she admits to herself that she is powerless over this disease, she won't get better." Listen below to "Doc" Gooden on "The Joan Hamburg Show" talking about Dr, Drew, "Celebrity Rehab," and Lindsay Lohan.
