Richard ‘Dick’ Codey, D-NJ Senate President joined the John Gambling Show 12.01.08
NJ Senate President Dick Codey joined the John Gambling Show to discuss NJ’s Economy and Tolls rising on NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway to take effect on Monday
On The new tolls on the Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway Senator Codey said that it really is only a minimal increase - the last time it was increased in the 1980's and there are bigger things to deal with. He said that in concert with the Governor, the Senate and Assembly will come together to make the tough cuts to get the budget done. He said in addition to cuts, a possible increase in property tax would be on the table. He said that in NJ those who make 53,000 dollars or less will have their property taxes frozen when they reach eligibility. Codey noted that this should help those people when cuts and increases are made.
On the NJ Budget, Codey added that the cost of doing business in NJ is much higher than Southern States. He cited that when Verizon wanted to move to Virginia because it's cheaper to run the company there, Senator Codey lobbied for them to come to The Garden State pointing out that quality of life in New Jersey is better than other states. And in the end Verizon moved to New Jersey - he was very proud of that.
Finally, the NJ Senate President said that New Jersey cannot just print money, they will need to balance the budget. To do that he and the rest of the NJ government will need some serious capital. Senate President Codey hopes Obama has a plan, a bailout or a stimulus package to help get that done.
