Bartlett's Blog for 01.07.09: Israel Taking It Too Far?
While most of the world was on the side of Israel when it attacked Hamas positions in Gaza in an effort to stop repeated rocket attacks on Israeli cities, but the tide may be changing. There is no question Israel was within it’s rights to attack and they have done their best to minimize civilian casualties, which is not easy to do since Hamas terrorists are bunkered down in civilian areas. But as the New York Times points out Israel may be reaching the point of diminishing returns because of the increasing number of civilian deaths and the disparate death toll ( 550 Palestinians and 5 Israelis )
The danger is that Hamas could gain popularity in any prolonged battle or a long-term occupation of the Gaza by Israeli troops. Make no mistake, Israel needs to bring an end to the Hamas rocket attacks, destroy supply lines, and make peace overtures to Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank who are truly interested in peaceful coexistence.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.
