I just listened to the podcast of your January 4th show. Cartagena is at the top of your list of destination this year. What are some companies that have cruises or tours that go there?

You're on the cutting edge Ernie! Cartagena is an increasingly popular area to visit, a well preserved colonial city, with a happening nightlife scene, decent beaches and many historic buildings to explore. For land tours, consult Marnella Tours (www.marnellatours.com), an expert in that part of the world.
As for cruises, I know that in 2009 the brand-new Celebrity Equinox will be sailing to Cartagena (along with other ports). Other cruise ships you might look at include: Holland America's Amsterdam, the Azamara Journey, the Carnival Pride, the Celebrity Mercury, the Norwegian Pearl and the Island Princess (there are a few others; go to www.cruisecritic.com for a complete list).

You mentioned Caravan Tours for Costa Rica on your show a year or so ago.
We just returned from their tour. It is terrific. Dollar for dollar it's one of the best tours we have ever gone on.
Yes you can spend more with Taulk and get better food and probably nicer hotels. But the efficiency and knowledge of the guides and the value at the hotels could not be beat.

By the way, I had called in before this past summer asking about a guided tour for a couple of days in Hong Kong.
You wisely told me to do our own thing. We did exactly that and had a great time including using their very efficient subway system without any knowledge of the language.
