New York's New Senator

How do you like New York's new Senator Kirsten Gillibrand? I think she is going to do a great job. She introduced herself to downstate over the weekend and will begin her work in Washington this week. Let me explain why I thought it would make sense that Governor Paterson select her, but first, you should know that I have never personally met her. When her name came up I researched her record and became more familiar with her background and that is what convinced me. I thought it was important that the Governor pick someone from upstate and her record only further convinced me she would be best. As for the massive confusion over Caroline Kennedy, I'm not sure what happened, but I'm very glad the Governor didn't allow her to use her name and family clout to box out Gillibrand. I was also honored that Senator Gillibrand called me first as she headed to NYC on Saturday to introduce herself to downstate voters.
