A Solo Traveler Asks About Traveling with Groups to Europe

I am a senior, and would like to hook up with groups traveling to Europe. My first choice would be France and Italy. Is there a way to meet the group before going on tour. This would be my first time  traveling alone, and would be interested in sharing  accommodations.

Thanking you,
Sally Weinstein

Thanks for your message Sally. I know that many churches, alumni associations and temples sponsor trips as fund raisers. They tend to be more expensive than the norm, but they're the only way I know of to meet the folks on the group tour in advance.

As for group tour operators: There are literally dozens out there. Two that specialize in seniors are Grand Circle Travel and ElderHostel, but truthfully, you're going to find yourself among your peers  if you travel with companies like Trafalgar Tours, Globus, Central Holidays or any of the other companies that set up tours to Europe as group touring is a type of travel that tends to attract older tourists. And most of these companies will pair solo travelers with roommates, but you won't get to meet your roomate until you get to Europe, nor will you have any choice in the matter.

Another option would be to travel with a women only organization as these tours are often primarily made up of solo travelers. One such company is Gutsy Women Travel (http://www.gutsywomentravel.com/). We'll actually be having their President as a guest on our show this week, so you may want to tune in to hear about their programs in Italy, France and other parts of the world.

Best,

Marathon Miracle

In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...

Pray for Us

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.

Great food matched with lovely wines

Here is a list of wines all from Spain, and menus from restaurants in Brooklyn where a crew of us  did a food / wine crawl through Carrol Gardens and Williamsburg recently
