The government is about to spend $825 billion or more to stimulate the economy, but when you take a closer look at where some of this money is going, you have to wonder where the stimulus is.
For example, $2.1 billion dollars is allocated for Head Start, which might prepare people for jobs but not create them. Another $2 billion for Child Care Block Grants, which will help with babysitting, but not if the parents don't find jobs. $20 billion for food stamps, $13 billion in Title 1 grants to raise the educational standards of students. Good idea but where are the jobs? And how about this whopper; nearly $90 billion for Medicaid, $2 billion to the National Park Service. Stop me if you've heard enough. Wait one more, $1.1 billion for "federal comparative effectiveness research" regarding health-care services. Stimulated yet?
