The process of losing weight can be struggle for many of us. You need to buy special foods; deal with hunger, “the dreaded exercise”, and of course the motivation to get started. But there seems to be a new form of motivation that is getting people to shed off the pounds; competition! One of the most popular reality TV shows, “The Biggest Loser,” sets people up in teams to see who can peel off more pounds in a week than the other. It now looks like this is spreading to small circles, and by an unlikely group…MEN! Yes, say it so, men have now entered the wonderful world of weight loss. There was an article in the New York Times that talked about how men are forming weight loss contests with friends and co-workers, and putting up cash incentives! Wonder if men do this to lose weight, or to win the challenge? But who cares, if they are getting healthy in the process everyone is a winner.
I am not sure if this technique would work for my friends, I can’t see us wanting one of the other to “lose.” I would probably have an extra cupcake before weigh-in so my girlfriend can come out on top that week. But then again maybe the claws would come out and your “so called friends” would start spiking your lunch with butter and fat!
