I Highly Recommend You Find Time to Watch “Taking Chance” on HBO
Joe Bartlett Reporting
HBO has just released a docudrama that will bring tears to your eyes and at the same time make you feel good about this country. It’s titled “Taking Chance”, and it documents the effort of U.S. Marines to escort the remains of those killed in Iraq and Afghanistan back home to their families. It follows the journey of 20-year-old PFC Chance Phelps who was killed in Iraq. The movie stars Kevin Bacon as a USMC Colonel who volunteers to escort Chance home to his parents. While this may seem morbid, you quickly see the care and respect that these fallen soldiers receive. I bet you didn’t know that at each transfer point there is a Marine escort to provide a salute to their fallen brother. For most Americans there is no personal connection to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, they are the business of about 150,000 families with loved ones in harms way. “Taking Chance” gives you some insight into the grieving that is done by the families of those who killed and the military operation that brings the victim to his or her final resting spot.
In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.
