WOR RADIO 710 ANNOUNCES ITS THIRD ANNUAL
“SHINING STAR TALENT SEARCH”
BENEFITING TRI-STATE AREA SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS
$10,000 GOES TO WINNING SCHOOL!
(New York, New York – April 13, 2007) – WOR Radio 710 HD has announced its third annual “Shining Star Talent Search,” which benefits tri-state area New York City schools and students by supporting arts curriculums and providing cash prizes to winning students. $10,000 goes to the school attended by the Shining Star winner! Students in grades 7-12 across the tri-state area have been invited to sing a song of their choice and to submit their recording to WOR Radio.
“Children living in New York City grow up in a rich and diverse musical environment, and we have made great efforts to cultivate our students' musical gifts,” said Sharon Dunn, Senior Instructional Manager for Arts Education at the New York City Department of Education. “We are delighted that this program offers New York City schoolchildren an opportunity to showcase their creativity and talent.”
Throughout the competition, students will be interviewed and their entries will be played on The WOR Morning Show with Joe Bartlett and Donna Hanover. After a rigorous internal judging process, the top 25 Semi-Finalists will each win $100 and perform live in front of a judging panel of entertainment industry professionals at WOR’s Shining Star Sing-Off at the Marriott Financial Center in Lower Manhattan on June 2nd. The judges will choose their top 6 six finalists whose performances will be aired on WOR and voted on by the listeners. The winner and second and third runners-up will perform before thousands of attendees at WOR’s Get Healthy Expo, an enormous event to be held at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center on June 16th. The cash prizes to students are as follows: Third place ($750), Second place ($1,500), and the Shining Star Winner gets $2,500 as well as a professional recording session with Kamen Entertainment Group NYC.
WOR Radio has a long tradition of supporting education and giving back to the communities we serve. Pop icon, Broadway performer, and original “Shining Star” winner Deborah Gibson attributes WOR with helping to get her career started when she won a WOR song writing competition. Previous winners and semi-finalists have been from New York City, Long Island, and New Jersey. Regarding her live performance at Celebrate America 2005, Alexandra Hausner from Fair Lawn, New Jersey was quoted in New Jersey’s Bergen Record as stating, “The second I stepped out there you could just feel the crowd and the rush…anything that I’ve ever imagined or dreamed of happened there.”
The deadline for entries is Tuesday, May 15th. This year’s Shining Star Talent Search is made possible by J&R Music and Computer World and Philips. For more information, visit www.wor710.com.

Election Day As we head to the polls to vote this election day, I am reminded of the suggestion I made recently, that you vote against any incumbent.
POLITICAL NOTES It’s time to say good-bye to State Senator Hiram Monserrate. While he managed to escape conviction on the most serious charges involving the slashing of his girlfriend, there is no doubt he should not keep his job.
"A Night in Purgatory" Now you might be a little surprised, but along with attending nightly theatre and movie screenings, I also, on occasion, attend restaurant and even club openings. What's new to New York doesn't get by me!
A Night To Remember So normally. I am not one to make a big deal of my birthday. A nice dinner with a few good friends will certainly do. So it was hugely out of the ordinary for me to celebrate this year...
Angel Food Cake Recipe So a bunch of you called in when I mentioned my funky angel food cake/raspberry jello concoction and wanted to know how to go about make it.
