We have been barraged by numbers these days and it’s almost numbing at times. Starting with the $700 billion dollar TARP Fund for banks, then it was $170 billion for AIG, the $878 Billion dollar stimulus bill, more billions for people facing foreclosure for auto companies and lets not forget the federal budget at $2.5 trillion dollars.
Any way you look at this it’s a lot of money. It strikes me that our government is very good at spending money but finds it nearly impossible to curtail spending. Look at the hand ringing and protests that have occurred because of the budget cuts being proposed in New York and New Jersey. Government has created the belief that we have an endless supply of money to throw at problems, and there is no need for anyone to suffer the pain of spending reductions.
As further proof that people have lost their grasp of numbers, we have the public and legislative leaders calling for a millionaires tax that effects those making $250 thousand or more.
