I was away for a few days and we need to get caught up on some things that have occurred.
First let me offer my condolences to the family of George Weber the radio newsman who was found murdered in his Brooklyn apartment. For over a decade he was doing the morning news on WABC, while I was doing the morning news on WOR. Our paths never crossed but I always admired his work.
Regarding the economy, here we go with another trillion-dollar idea from the White House. This time they want people to buy up the bad assets of banks, but don’t worry the federal government will back you up. Call me stupid, but the reason banks are in such bad shape is because they have so much bad debt, and things will improve if we buy the bad debt banks don’t want. What kind of a deal is that? One only Washington politicians could think up. But hey it sparked a rally on Wall Street, so what do I know.
Now to Albany. What an embarrassment the legislature has failed to deal with the MTA financial package and in dealing with its own budget problems, the want to raise taxes on the wealthy and increase the sale tax, another brilliant idea from Albany. We need to broom that place.
