I always knew I was ahead of the curve. A new survey shows that over 30% of voicemails go unheard. Over the past few years I have noticed that I check my voicemail less and less. The first one to bring this to my attention was my mother. When she would finally reach me, usually on my cell, she would say “Haven’t you heard my voicemails?” Actually Mom…I didn’t. I used to love getting a those happy message on “the machine.” “Hey Nat it’s (fill in the blank)…call me when you get in.” When I was in college I even made cute outgoing messages in rhyme. “Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, I am so sorry I am not home to talk to you.” But when my forms of communication grew I felt I had to break free of something. I have a home machine, voicemail at the office, voicemail on my cell, email, IM, Blackberry messenger, text, Facebook, and Twitter. I feel bad I needed to break free from my first love, but it just wasn’t working for me anymore. So I am sending out a public apology to the 30% of you that I never got back to. It’s wasn’t that I did not want to, I am just suffering message overload.
