Ippudo
Some people think of ramen noodles as the oodles of noodles instant noodles. But, really good ramen noodles is an art form in Japan. Now, one of the most popular ramen chains in Japan has opened in NY. It’s called Ippudo. It has a limited menu—mostly ramen noodles and some appetizers including a steamed bun filled with pork or chicken. The Ramen is really delicious—thick and flavorful. It’s not for the vegetarians. You can get it without the piece of pork, but I think they are all made from pork broth. Be prepared to wait. We had tried to get in several times for dinner without success. The wait can be up to 2 hours!! We finally went for brunch—12:30 on a Sunday and only waited about 20 minutes. When we left though, the place was packed.
It’s lots of Japanese families, young Japanese students, NYU students and young couples. It’s a nice looking, modern place. Good for large group or date.

Summer Housing for Students
Speaking of students, it’s time for college students and maybe even recent graduates to think about summer jobs and internships. For those who want to spend the summer in NY, housing can be a fortune. I’ve found a great solution, there’s a company called Educational Housing Services, Inc. (EHS). They offer private, off-campus student housing in great neighborhoods throughout the city. Any currently enrolled college student, intern or recent college grads who have internships in the city this summer are eligible for housing. They also have housing specials available for faculty members who are teaching in NY this summer.EHS summer housing is available at four Manhattan EHS locations and three in Brooklyn Heights. Some of the newer ones have Flat screen TVS with DVD players. Some even have small kitchens in the room, all have refrigerators and microwaves and shared kitchens. There’s a new building at 1760 Third Avenue which has a 3,500 square foot fitness room, game room, and a laundry room that texts you when laundry is done and you can also go online to check the status of washers and dryers! Plus they all have either gym memberships or health clubs in the building. Three are in Brooklyn Heights, there’s a new building at 1760 Third Avenue (97th Street) and one on John Street– near the financial district and Pace University, and two in midtown
-They are offering some special summer rates--as little as $700 per month per person in Brooklyn, $800 in Manhattan (for double occupancy).
-Summer rates are from May 31 through August 15, 2009.
-Each building has security and a resident advisor—just like in a dorm.
