New York Uncovered- Get Your Hair and Nails done 24 hrs a Day

April 10, 2009
Hair Twenty Four
Now, in the city that never sleeps, you can get your hair done, your nails polished, and your legs and other parts waxed any time, day or night. Hair Party 24 is open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. The owner opened her first shop in Korea and brought the concept to the U.S. recently. You don’t need an appointment normally before 10pm. Last week, I went out of town for a few days and needed some last minute grooming before I hit the beach. The place was pretty empty and they were able to take me right away without an appointment. I was a little surprised that it was more expensive than I am used to paying, but I figured that I am paying for convenience.   A blow dry from 6am to noon is $40. Eyebrow waxing is $15, but they charge and extra $5 per service for all services between 10pm and 6am. They will also do a party by appointment. For this coming week’s Spa Week they are running a few specials by appointment only—30 minute massage and manicure is $50, spa pedicure, manicure and 10 minute massage is $50. I heard that they even pass around wine and champagne in the wee hours. If you are traveling, or have an early morning event or just have insomnia, this is great to know about.

Minimus
I wanted to take carry on with me on this short trip, so I was running around trying to find shampoo, gel, bug spray in little containers. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t know about Minimus last week. It is a site that ships small travel size containers of just about everything you need for travel. Minimus began when the Shrater family was on a vacation, they realized that they would need to throw away several bottles of condiments at the end of their trip and that’s when the idea was born.   A lot of times, the drugstore or grocery store has a limited selection. So, Minimus created a huge offering of products. They claim that many of the items are not available for retail sale anywhere else. They also put together care packages to send to college students, or those in the military. They even have an office survival kit! This is a cute gift, it’s wrapped in a large gold bow around a miniature red, steel file cabinet with some office essentials like gum, dental wipes, bandages, sewing kit, and more.   They even have a clothing emergency kit, The VIP Clothing Care Kit has 11 items all packed inside a small travel-sized kit   It includes things like wrinkle spray, travel sized spray starch, sewing kit, stain remover wipes, shoe shine, pet hair removal, delicate fabric wash and static cling spray. It’s $15.35   Lots of great other pre-made kits and individual items. Free shipping on all order over $20.

Marathon Miracle

In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...

Pray for Us

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.

Great food matched with lovely wines

Here is a list of wines all from Spain, and menus from restaurants in Brooklyn where a crew of us  did a food / wine crawl through Carrol Gardens and Williamsburg recently
