1. Apply as soon as possible for a mortgage, even if you haven’t found a property. Lenders can grant loan commitments subject to contract of sale.
2. Get a referral for a credible real estate agent and mortgage provider.
3. Research and hire a competent real estate attorney.
4. Order a copy of your credit report so you know your credit standing in advance.
5. Do not change careers if you are planning on buying a home. Lenders want to see that the borrower has stable income, and one of the ways that they do this is to look at employment history.
