Gov. Paterson: I Will Veto Any Spending Legislation This Year

Governor Paterson: I Will Veto Any Spending Legislation This Year

David Paterson, Governor (D-NY)joined The John Gambling Show to discuss Judge Sonia Sotomayor, H1N1, Ethics Reform, NY Stimulus and all things Albany related.

On the ethics Governor Paterson is calling for the creation of the Government Ethics Commission to oversee both the Executive and Legislative branches of government. This way, no one can be appointed by an elected official, bottom line. It's embarrassing that courts deal with legislators before process does - it just makes no sense.

On the budget, Governor Paterson said that through flat spending, even with a large budget, the State will be able to balance the budget over the next three years. The stimulus money is not addressing deficit that has been run up by NY State - it only accounts for recession caused deficit. The way out of this is simply cutting back.

Finally, Governor Paterson said that the old days of spending can never happen again, and if any legislation has spending it it this year, he will veto it and it will not be able to be reversed.
