(Hartford, CT) -- The state Department of Public Health has confirmed the first Connecticut fatality as a result of the swine flu. Officials say the unidentified victim was a New Haven County resident over the age of 50. The victim reportedly had underlying health problems that placed the individual at a higher risk for complications from the flu. In addition to the death, public health officials are also reporting 40 new confirmed cases of the swine influenza, bring the total number of Connecticut cases to 397 since the outbreak began this spring.
