Tony Results

The 63rd annual Tony Awards were given out last night at Radio City Music Hall and the producers of the show FINALLY got it right. The TV production with a spot on opening and closing numbers was terrific…best ever, fast paced, exciting, funny and even the MC a very entertaining Neil Patrick Harris was super.
There were few surprises in regards to the winners. Best Play Tony went to God of Carnage and Best Musical to Billy Elliot. Leading actor awards went to Geoffrey Rush in Exit the King and the 3 boys aspiring to be ballet dancers won for their performances in Billy Elliot. Leading Actress Tonys went to Marcia Gay Harden in God of Carnage and Alice Ripley as the bipolar mom in Next to Normal.
The Best Revival of a Play Tony went to The Norman Conquests and Hair, which put on one of the best performances seen on the Tony show for a long time, won for Best Revival of a Musical. Liza Minnelli‘s show Liza’s at the Palace was voted the Tony for the Best Special Theatrical Event.
Featured actor awards went to Roger Robinson in Joe Turner’s Come and Gone and, in the lone semi surprise of the evening, Greg Jbara who was Billy Elliot’s dad beat out Will Swenson from Hair. Featured actress winners were Angela Lansbury who amused us all in Blithe Spirit and Karen Olivo for her portrayal of Anita in West Side Story.
Billy Elliot collected 10 Tonys including a tie, God of Carnage and Next to Normal received 3 including a tie, Joe Turner's Come and Gone nabbed 2 and 10 other shows won only one a piece.
Again no real surprises but I truly hope you and many others saw the TV show or can find a copy on Tivo or Youtube. Fantastic night in my opinion. Oh, by the way, I correctly picked 13 winners out of 14...
