I forgot how breathtakingly beautiful the Adirondack Mountain Range is- comparable to Lake Como in Switzerland. Eight of us who have been hiking and vacationing together for the past 20 odd years gathered at the spectacular Lake Placid Lodge to celebrate a birthday. Some of our friendships go back to our college days and we communicate without even talking, know each other strengths and weaknesses, and are non- judgmental of each other. What better place to be all together then this fabulous lodge, which retains its great sense of history and yet possesses every modern amenity. You can enjoy wonderful guest-rooms, lakeside suites, beautifully furnished cabins. There are outdoor and indoor dining spaces all with massive fireplaces. Among the activities you can choose hiking, biking, boating, fishing, golfing, rafting, tennis, and more. It a Relais & Chateaux resort so the level of service is extraordinary. How restorative it is to get away from our hectic lives (all of us are still working) and revel in our longtime friendships, heady mountain air, and a great sprit of camaraderie. In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.
Here is a list of wines all from Spain, and menus from restaurants in Brooklyn where a crew of us did a food / wine crawl through Carrol Gardens and Williamsburg recently
