Where to Stay
We like three places that will fit just about any budget;
Embassy Circle Guest House on R Street is a great value in a converted Embassy. Beautifully decorated, great innkeepers and large rooms. Summer rates from $180. DC Inns.com. We always like the French inspired Sofitel hotels, a bit of European flair, excellent service and good size rooms. Rates from $210. At the top of the heap, we love the Four Seasons in Georgetown and at rates

Where To Eat
Some of the best restaurants in town are outside of the District; Inn at Little Washington for an experience of a lifetime, L’Auberge Chez Francois in Great Falls which was a top restaurant when I lived in Washington in the 70’s and still is. In town, I love the historic 1789, Marcel’s, Kinkaid’s for seafood and Michel Ricard’s Citronelle.
For something more casual try Clyde’s in Georgetown, or Old Ebbitt Grille and you won’t want to miss brunch at the Tabard Inn.
For drinks, the Sky Terrace at the Hotel Washington overlooks the White House, Treasury and other buildings and Sequoia has great views down the Potomac at sunset.
Things To Do
If you haven’t been to Washington the best way to see it for the first time is to take a tour. Old Town Trolley Tours lets you see the sights and get on and off when you want. $24. DC Ducks Tour may be the most fun with a city tour on land and in the Potomac. $25. Bike the Sites is a great way to see Washington and get some exercise and the newest tour innovation is to see the City on a Segway with City Segway Tours.
You won’t want to miss the Library of Congress or the Air & Space Museum whether you’ve been there before or not. There’s just so much to see. The International Spy Museum and the new Crime and Punishment Museum are lots of fun and the Eastern Market on Saturdays and the Georgetown Flea Market on Sundays are wonderful experiences.
For entertainment, Wolf Trap Farm Park in Vienna Va. has the best music and comedy line-up during the warmer months and is a beautiful country venue and the Carter-Barron Amphitheatre in Rock Creek Park hosts gospel, soul, jazz and R&B on summer weekends.
