Congressman Peter King: I Stand Strongly by What I Said

mfigliola@wor710.com

Congressman Peter King (R-NY), Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee

Congressman Peter King (R-NY) joined the John Gambling show for the second time in as many days to continue discussing his comments made early in the week of Michael Jackson. King, on a youtube video posted Sunday, was quoted as calling the late pop star a “pervert” and “pedophile” among other names. Congressman King exclusively spoke to John Gambling Tuesday and said he would not be speaking to any other media that day.

Congressman King said that he has felt hostile reaction from the video via e-mails and phone calls received by his office. However, King said there are many supporters who agree with what the Long Island congressman said. King thought someone needed to bring this to light and he felt obligated to say the words that have know rung out and become a big news story. Although the comments may have not been political correct, King said he expressed the feelings that many Americans were thinking but did not have the opportunity to say.

King continued to say that he did not want to speak to much press today because he knows that an open discussion can be held in a civil way. He did not want to get drawn into a debate with Al Sharpton nor did he want to fall into the same trap as the media did. He does stand strong by what he did and thinks many were happy that King did speak up.

Congressman King finally mentioned that the main reason behind his comments were because he has felt the media has had completely too much coverage of the Michael Jackson story. He mentioned that many news channels went on Monday and started with Jackson regardless of the fact that the President was in Moscow and that soldiers were killed in Afghanistan. He feels something is wrong with this country to give this person so much attention which so much else going on in the world such as Iran, Iraq, North Korea, etc. These are important issues and the ones that Americans should have a vested interest in according to Congressman King.
