Finding a job in this economy is difficult for those holding any degree. However, many adults are choosing to “up the ante” in the job hunt competition by enrolling in school to earn another degree. Online courses are attracting many to further their education due to their quality, access, and affordability. Kim Clark is the Education Senior Writer at US News and World Report. She spoke to Joan Hamburg about the rise in online education during her appearance on The Joan Hamburg Show WOR 710HD.
“It’s a great time to think about online education” Clark said. With four million Americans taking online courses this year, it is obvious that many are resorting to this option for their schooling.
While online education is so new, US News and World Report have not been able to rank the best schools. She does advise those considering beginning online courses to do research before making a final decision on a program. “First of all, you can go to the U.S. Department of Education’s website to check and see if the school you’re planning on going to is approved for financial aid and for credit,” said Clark.
She said the next step is to call employers to see which programs they find more impressive once you have narrowed your options down. “Go to the source and see who they really respect,” Clark said. Calling an employer will give you some insight on who they hire and who has a good education.
Another important factor is the technological aspect of the online education process. “You want a school with 24/7 tech support, cause it’s an online program and things happen online” she said. Lastly, schedules are important when looking into the school of your choice. “The traditional schools are maintaining that traditional semester and many adults prefer the intense four or five week semester,” Clark said. “Check the schedule of the course and see if it fits your schedule” she said.
In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.
