Paterson: I Invite The Senate To Challenge My Appointment of Richard Ravitch As Lt. Governor

David Paterson, Governor (D-NY) joined The John Gambling Show to discuss the latest news from Albany - and why he chose Ex-MTA Chair Richard Ravitch as Lt. Governor.

Governor Paterson said that the Senate Republicans plan to prevent Richard Ravitch from becoming Lt. Governor is not true - Mr. Ravitch is already sworn in and has been accepted into office. The issue here is this: if the Governor becomes incapacitated there would be no one to step up and act as Governor. There has never been an issue like this faced by a Governor and we need to change the constitution to reflect this type of situation we are experiencing in Albany right now. The legal advice from Kathleen Sullivan given to the Governor after plenty of research was he could appoint a Lt. Governor.

Governor Paterson added that the Republicans did win the leadership on June 8th but lost it by June 15th leaving the Senate in a tie. The Lt. Governor  move here is not as political as it may seem to people because it only satisfies the constitutional duty to have a Governor if the need arises. There would be no advantage given to one or the other side of the Senate - this resolves the Senate not voting on who the leader is in the Senate and who succeeds the Governor. The bottom line is the Governor would like to err on the side of action rather than inaction, which has been going on there for the month or so.

Finally, Governor Paterson said that he invites the Senate to challenge his appointment of Dick Ravitch as Lt. Governor.

Marathon Miracle

In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...

Pray for Us

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.

Great food matched with lovely wines

Here is a list of wines all from Spain, and menus from restaurants in Brooklyn where a crew of us  did a food / wine crawl through Carrol Gardens and Williamsburg recently
