How much fun it was to drive thru those little towns on the North Fork, surrounded by vineyard after vineyard, farm stands, and simple little Main Streets with none of the feeding frenzy of the Hamptons. You could spend a day or spend a weekend enjoying wine, delicious food, and stony bay beaches. Jedediah Hawkins Inn in Jamesport has a new chef, and we heard he is quite good, North Fork Table & Inn in Southold is outstanding, and so is the Jamesport Country Kitchen. On Shelter Island, just a short ferry ride away, the Vine Street Cafe is still considered to be one the best. Just thinking what a great little getaway this would in late August, or early September, when the farm stands are full with fresh fruitsand vegetables the bay water is warm, and vineyards are in production.
