Democratic senator considering Conn. governor run

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - An East Hartford state senator will announce Tuesday he is forming an exploratory committee to determine whether to run as a Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Connecticut's 2010 election.

Gary LeBeau, scheduled to make a noontime announcement at Goodwin College, says the state needs fresh leadership and he's the person who can "do what is necessary to bring Connecticut out of the economic malaise" it's experiencing.

LeBeau, a retired East Hartford teacher, served four years in the House of Representatives before winning his first of seven terms in the Senate in 1996. He chairs the legislature's Commerce Committee.

Among other Democrats, House Speaker James Amann has announced his candidacy. Stamford Mayor Dannel (DAN'-el) Malloy and Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz have formed exploratory committees.
