Wendy Williams, the radio personality, talked with Joan Hamburg recently on The Joan Hamburg Show. The talent “… spent 23 glorious year in radio”, and she will be rewarded for this by being entered into The Radio Hall of Fame. Wendy finally ended her radio career two weeks ago, and is now embarking on her very own TV show, The Wendy Williams Show, which airs weekdays at 10 AM on Fox 5.
The larger than life personality is quite well rounded. On top of radio and television projects, Wendy is also a New York Times bestseller, as well as a mother and wife. She has been married to her husband for a long time, and the couple has a son Kevin who is 9. Wendy admits that it is quite difficult to juggle all of this, and this is one of the reasons why she claims, “No, I don’t miss the radio”. The radio was four hours, plus prep time, and left her absolutely exhausted.
Ms. Williams is a true Jersey Girl, raised in Ocean Township, which is in Monmouth County, New Jersey. She attended Northeastern University, and was a communications major, with a minor in journalism. She admits that her parents whispered, “she’ll never do it”, but she kept working towards her goal of being in radio. Her first job was at a radio station in the U.S. Virgin Islands, on the island of St. Croix, and from there her career took off.
During her 23 years in the radio Wendy worked at various radio stations, but finally decided that when a television offer was given to her, she had to move on. She loves that she, “[gets] the permission to be your authentic self and actually make a career out of it”. Her television show allows her to be herself and give love to her audiences.
The Wendy Williams Show is made up of 3 sections. The first is “hot topics”. This section is where Wendy dishes on all of the celebrity gossip. The second is made up of celebrity interviews, and the third section is called “Ask Wendy”. This section is important to Wendy, because as she says, “I’m 45 and a little messy and I’m not scared to share my opinion”. This section is her time to share her opinions, and she loves that people are interested in her opinion.
The longtime radio personality is very excited to now be able to reach out to her fans through television. It’s a new way for her to express her love for her audiences and just be herself and do what she does best. We can be sure to expect many more great things from her.
The Wendy Williams Show airs at 10 AM on Fox 5, and re-airs at night on My9 and BET.
In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.
