Power Windows and Cable TV

cardoc@wor710.com

How complex is a car? As much or more than cable tv! And it costs more plus is driven hard by millions of people everday (althought the argument could be made so is cable)

A 2005 Toyota came into the shop this week. The drivers side power window was stuck down. After some detailed diagnosis I found that the single wire from the body computer (over which a multiplexed or frequency signal rides) was showing a constant signal and 12 volts. After cutting the wire the door switch for that window now worked properly. Of course you could no longer control the window from the master switch located in the drivers door. So now I had to trace out the source of the voltage.  After pin testing the master switch I disconnected it and as expected the voltage was still present on the signal line to the door in question. This job didn't "smell" easy when I started it. Repeating the process at the body computer provided the same results. So, with the wring harness now isolated all by itself there was still a digital signal coming from somewhere with a frequency all its own. This technology is similar to how your cable box works. One wire, on which different signals ride to allow access to all the different channels. The difference is when the cable box breaks you swap in anogther one. With a car its a different story and cost factor. After explaining where we were in the repair the customer decided to stop at this point to save some more money to allow us to diagnose further. As soon as they do and we can finish the repair I will let you know. Times are tough and dollars short; they're thinking of giving up cable service to save some money for the repair. Knid of ironic, isn't it?

Marathon Miracle

In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...

Pray for Us

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.

Great food matched with lovely wines

Here is a list of wines all from Spain, and menus from restaurants in Brooklyn where a crew of us  did a food / wine crawl through Carrol Gardens and Williamsburg recently
