U.S. Open Security Boosted After Fan Gets On Court

(New York, NY)  --  Security is on high alert at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City after a fan got up close and personal with Spanish tennis pro Rafael Nadal at the U.S. Open on Tuesday night.

Nadal was changing shirts after beating Gael Monfils to reach the quarter-finals when Queens resident Noam Aorta jumped onto the court.

The 23-year-old managed to hug Nadal and kiss him on the cheek before he was accosted by security guards.

In an interview with ESPN Sports, U.S. Open tournament director Jim Curley called the incident "simply unacceptable."  He added that the United States Tennis Association will provide amped-up security for players for the remainder of the tournament, which ends Sunday.

Aorta is due to be arraigned on charges of third-degree criminal trespassing and interfering with a professional sporting event.

He could face a five-thousand dollar fine and up to a year in jail if convicted.
