A Father's Request for His Son's 9/11 Memorial Denied

vincent.macri@gmail.com

Peter Gadiel, a father who lost his son during the terror attacks against the World Trade Center on 9/11, joined the Steve Malzberg Show to discuss why he wants his town to include a plaque at his son’s memorial there that says, "Killed by Muslim Terrorists.”

James was an ambitious 23 year old assistant trader fresh out of college and who just landed this job six months prior. Working in the Big Apple nearby the most recognized street in any financial district, James had a promising career ahead of him. Then tragedy struck in a blink of an eye during what was any regular Wednesday morning for most people. 8 years now have come and gone since that morning and a father in Kent, Connecticut still has to live with the fact that terrorist seized control of planes and crashed them into New York City skyscrapers where his son was that day.  Peter, James’ father, has not forgotten who took his son’s life that day and he wants to make sure no one else does.

Peter explained that the mayor of his town had asked him what we would like his son’s memorial plaque to say. When he answered, the phrase “killed by Muslim terrorist” was included in his response. Now he has run into opposition from people who do not agree with that wording. Selectmen from Kent have said that they do not want to disparage against any select ethnic group, which is why they do not want to include the phrase on James’ plaque. Peter, however, feels this is appropriate so that we do not forget.

At this point, Peter will not collaborate and except the town’s memorial if the phrase is not added to the plaque. The world had become to be politically correct in these times and that is why Peter believes the town is refusing his request. He added that this would not be just for his son, but for all who perished on 9/11 so we all remember who were responsible.  He does not want this fact to be suppressed.

Marathon Miracle

In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...

Pray for Us

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.

Great food matched with lovely wines

Here is a list of wines all from Spain, and menus from restaurants in Brooklyn where a crew of us  did a food / wine crawl through Carrol Gardens and Williamsburg recently
