Paterson: We Are Not Out Of The Recession

New York State Governor David Paterson joined John Gambling in the WOR studio today for a discussion on the current state of the economy.

Acknowledging the concerns of New York citizens, the governor said that everyone has the right to be upset. He compared the state to a household and claimed that tough decisions have to be made for long-term benefits.

“The consequences are worse,” Paterson said.

Paterson’s plan is to maintain a positive credit rating and make payments on time. His goal: to be one of the top 14 states that come out of the recession and to reduce the deficit. But according to Paterson, there won’t be relief until the second half of 2010.

“We’re not out of the recession,” he said.

However, Paterson assured the citizens of New York that he is doing everything he can to reduce the deficit. He admitted the license plate fee was another means to generate revenue and that his main priority is the deficit reduction plan.

“This has been the most difficult period the state has ever had to face,” he said, “It’s really the legislatures who are obfuscating the ability of government to address these problems.”

The governor also confirmed that he is thinking of reelection.

Listeners who called in were worried about the effect cuts would have on education.

Paterson claimed that the cuts to education will not diminish services and that there will be no layoffs for the teachers. 95% of the school districts he is cutting have pre-reserved funds that will absorb the cuts and 71% of the cuts would be administrative.

Other callers had other things in mind.

“What are you going to be for Halloween tomorrow?” one woman asked.

“I think I’m coming as Jimmy Rollins,” Patterson responded with a chuckle.

Marathon Miracle

In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...

Pray for Us

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.

Great food matched with lovely wines

Here is a list of wines all from Spain, and menus from restaurants in Brooklyn where a crew of us  did a food / wine crawl through Carrol Gardens and Williamsburg recently
