When Joan was a young girl, she remembers Finian’s Rainbow being one of the first shows her mom ever took her to. She just loved the music at the time when the play first came out. When she saw this play was coming back to Broadway, Joan could not believe her eyes in seeing that it was getting revived. Happy that it has is Joan since she has not been able to get the fantastic tunes she heard opening night of Finian’s Rainbow out of her head.
While coming into the work the next day, Joan was explaining to her driver all about the play and she said his eyes lit up in wonder. The story is about a mother and father who come to America from Ireland with a pot of stolen gold from a leprechaun. All types of interesting characters and unique places are visited during the show. The play almost becomes ridiculous at times with all the twist and side plots viewers experience. Forget about this though and just put it behind you because the music and dancing are magnificent.
For 2 hours you are in fantasy world while watching this show according to Joan. Go for the sheer pleasure of the music and performances. Joan wondered how they would get away with this in 2009, but you get sucked up in the show and forget about the not-so-light issues of our time, which weren’t second thoughts in the 1940’s. This is a must see for any theater lover.
