New York Uncovered- Great shopping and art tour for the weekend

November 6, 2009

Silhouettes and Profiles
There are tons of tailors and dry cleaners in NY, but finding someone who really knows how to make a dress fit and knows how to work with delicate fabric is a big deal. Hidden away on the second floor on the Upper West side is a tailor that’s been in business almost 40 years. They have two parts of their business—restoration and alteration. Their restoration clients are everyone from private clients to celebrities to museums and their work has been included in the Chanel and Poiret exhibitions in New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art, exhibits at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

In addition to the really high end, exclusive work, they do basic tailoring. From what I’ve heard, they do an incredible job and prices for basic tailoring seem very reasonable-- ranging from $24 for hemming jeans and other pants, $50-$70 to put in new lining in pants. Coat linings are more—around $120.

Marathon Miracle

In a previous blog, “A Runners Wife” I spoke about my husband training for the NYC marathon. All I have to say is that the months of training all came together of an amazing race. Race day is a grueling day for runners, and the family. But a miracle happened...

Pray for Us

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the senate judiciary committee and basically shrugged when asked if any other enemy combatant captured overseas had ever been brought to civilian criminal court to face justice. Talk about an incompetent boob, not to mention a disgrace.

Great food matched with lovely wines

Here is a list of wines all from Spain, and menus from restaurants in Brooklyn where a crew of us  did a food / wine crawl through Carrol Gardens and Williamsburg recently
