Good-bye ghosts, goblins and witches and hello Christmas! The candy is not even stale yet and Halloween has been thrown out like an old banana to make room for the main attraction. Christmas used to start after the Thanksgiving Day parade. Santa was ushered in at the end of the floats and big balloons to let us know the season had officially begun. Now they start to sneak him in after Labor Day. You will see an ornament here and there for sale, then come Columbus Day you start to notice lots of green and red in the stores. Then days after the orange and black has been packed away all the “seasonal” ware is brought out in full force.
It is not that I don’t like the Christmas season, but I am just not ready. I have barely dug out my winter sweaters, yet I people are humming “Deck the Halls.” It feels like a 10 ton sack of toys has just been put on my shoulders. My mother has already informed me that she is almost done with her gift shopping and has mailed them out to me to put under the tree. A friend on Facebook has announced to the world that she “had so much Christmas shopping done it was ridiculous!” Then someone at the office told me she has begun to write out her cards. I have not even thought about what I want to buy or look at my list (forget about checking it twice!)
The holiday season has begun; just wish there would give us a week or so before I start to celebrate.
