(New York, NY) -- Governor Paterson is calling state lawmakers back to Albany next week for a special budget cutting session. But the governor is also putting a measure to legalize same-sex marriage on the docket. The state Senate could take up the bill or shelve it during the extraordinary session, but the governor is calling on state lawmakers not to skirt the issue.
It is unclear of there are enough votes in the state Senate to pass gay marriage, which the state Assembly has already approved. A spokesman says Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson is attempting to round up votes.
