Mayor Bloomberg on Teacher Evaluations

While discussing the current state of union deals and teacher evaluations in the New York City school system, Mayor Bloomberg shared with host John Gambling that he is not optimistic about reaching a fair decision, as there "is no evidence that a deal will get done."

"The union's job is not to improve the school system or to help the kids," he emphasized. "The union's job is to take care of its members."

After losing out on over $450 million by failing to reach the extent of Governor Cuomo's district requirements, Bloomberg notes that New York City will have to make up for this in other areas.

"I don't know how we're going to pay for it," he said. "It means fewer teachers, it means fewer every kind of employee in New York City. You can't take everything out of one pot."

Mayor Bloomberg has made it clear that he is not willing to go forward with making a deal unless a solid evalutation system is evident.
