Teen Falls Through Ice at Central Park Pond

For the third time in about a month, a teenager has fallen through the ice at a frozen pond in Central Park.

The 16-year-old boy was on the pond near East Drive and East 60th Street yesterday when he fell into the water.  Witnesses alerted police in the area, including Officer Eddie Radoncic who walked out onto the ice to rescue the boy.

“We heard ice crack and it was getting weaker and weaker by the minute.  So I figured if I go down by myself, pull him out, we have a better chance,” Radoncic said.

On Sunday, two teenagers swam to shore after falling through the ice of a Central Park pond while taking selfies.  Last month, seven teens had to be rescued after a similar situation.

There are signs posted near the ponds telling people not to walk on the ice.
