Padres Outlast Mets 4-3 in Rain Filled Night at Citi Field

The Mets lost their third game in four tries as they were defeated out in the rain tonight 4-3 by the Padres as Citi Field. Dinelson Lamet got the win for the Padres in his first major league start. He struck out eight over five innings allowing just one run on three hits.

With the poor forecast, the Mets decided to push Jacob deGrom back to Friday and instead started struggling right-hander Rafael Montero. Montero lasted just three innings allowing three runs on five hits while walking three.

Paul Sewald and Josh Edgin kept the game close tossing a combined five scoreless innings for the Mets. The Mets offense had several opportunities to get back into the game, but were only able to score when Lucas Duda hit a solo shot in the second inning and then an RBI single in the eighth to cut the lead to 3-2.

In the top of the ninth, Addison Reed let the Padres add to their lead when Cory Spangenberg made it 4-2 with an RBI single. The Mets would cut the lead to 4-3 when Jose Reyes drove in Juan Lagares on a fielder's choice, but Jay Bruce popped up to end the ballgame.

They will begin a three game series in Pittsburgh tomorrow night. 'Mets on Deck' kicks off coverage on WOR at 6:05 pm with Pete McCarthy.
