Construction Workers Injured in Roof Collapse

Two construction workers remain in critical condition after a roof collapse in Queens on Tuesday.

There was a delivery of construction material to the building on 28th Road in Astoria when the roof collapsed.  A 28-year-old worker was trapped for two hours under 1,000 pounds of debris.

“The story really is that many people put themselves in grave danger today to save one person,” Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.

A second worker had already been rescued and is also hospitalized in critical condition.  A third worker was able to free themself and is listed in serious condition.
