Mets Drop Opener with St. Louis 6-3

The Mets lost their second straight game as the Cardinals took the opener of a four-game series 6-3 tonight at Citi Field.

Zack Wheeler tossed five scoreless innings before allowing a 2-run Home Run to Paul DeJong and then an RBI double to Adam Wainwright. He was pulled and shortly after watched as Hansel Robles surrendered a 3-run blast to Tommy Pham. The Mets would try to rally in the bottom half trailing 6-1, Lucas Duda homered, and Jose Reyes scored after roping a double and advancing two bases on an error by the right fielder.

In the ninth inning Curtis Granderson led off with a walk, then Asdrubal Cabrera roped a double bringing Yoenis Cespedes to the plate representing the tying run. Cespedes grounded a 3-0 pitch into a game ending double play.

The Mets will send Rafael Montero to the hill in game two of this series on Tuesday night. Coverage on WOR kicks off at 6:05 pm with Pete McCarthy & 'Mets on Deck'.
